Dean was intrigued by photography from an early age, showing a unique eye for composition. He fine-tuned his skills with a newspaper cadetship, then working for a studio before going contract/freelance. Now his photographic business based out of New Zealand and Switzerland supplies images to magazines, newspapers and clients globally as well as international news agencies AFP and Getty Images.
His editorial and sports images have been published worldwide in publications as prominent as The International Herald Tribune, TIME, The Telegraph, The New York Times, La Stampa, Sports Illustrated, Wall Street Journal, The Sydney Morning Herald, The Washington Post, Le Monde, USA Today, Life, The Evening Standard, Asahi Shimbun, The Independent, The Boston Globe, The Guardian and The Epoch Times.
While Dean has specialized in sports and editorial photography, he thrives on the challenge and diversity of all aspects of photography. Accordingly his work has been featured in advertising and promotional campaigns for companies as diverse as Red Bull, adidas, Samsung, Land Rover, Reebok, EA Sports, Steinlager & Les Mills.
His enjoyment of natural environments and light can be seen in his images. One of his strengths is his ability to give an inside perspective of the sport or event he is covering, quickly, distinctly and with an easy going, fly-on-the-wall manner. Hanging from helicopters or braving the elements on land or at sea are all in a day`s work in getting the perfect shots for the client.
