Dean was intrigued by photography from an early age, showing a unique eye for composition. He fine-tuned his skills with a newspaper cadetship, then working for a studio before going contract/freelance.
Since then he has been fortunate enough to be contracted for such highlight sports events as the Olympics, the Commonwealth Games, All Black rugby tours, Moto GP, Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series, International Cricket tours, WRC, Grand Slam Tennis and Louis Vuitton & America's Cups.
Based out of New Zealand and Switzerland, Dean's business supplies images to magazines, newspapers and clients globally as well as the biggest international news agencies AFP, AP and Reuters, and the world's leading photo agency, Getty Images.

While Dean has specialized in sports and editorial photography, he thrives on the challenge and diversity of all aspects of photography. Accordingly his work has been featured in advertising and promotional campaigns for companies as diverse as Red Bull, adidas, Samsung, Land Rover, Reebok, EA Sports, Steinlager & Les Mills.
His enjoyment of natural environments, light and moments can be seen in his images. One of his strengths is his ability to give an inside perspective of the sport or event he is covering, quickly, distinctly and with an easy going, fly-on-the-wall manner. Hanging from helicopters or braving the elements on land or at sea are all in a day`s work in getting the perfect shots for the client.
